TBOA Seminar in Munich Concluded

(OIN, 14 July 200) - A seminar on "Authoritarianism, Repression, War and Famine in Ethiopia" that was organized by the Union of Oromo Students in Europe (Also known as TBOA from its Oromo acronym) was concluded today in Munich, Germany. TBOA organized the seminar on the occasion of its 26th annual congress.

The seminar was opened by Mr. Bultum Biyyo, the Vice-Chairman of the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF). In his opening speech, Mr. Bultum highlighted the role TBOA played over a period of 25 years in promoting and supporting the struggle of the Oromo people against colonial tyranny. He commended TBOA’s perseverance and relentless effort in making the Oromo cause known to the world public.

Papers addressing the continued human rights violations by the current Ethiopian regime, the role plaid by international aid in light of the growing authoritarianism in Ethiopia, the comparative studies of the Horn and the Great Lakes region, and famine in Ethiopia and the state of Oromo relief work were presented at the at the seminar. The seminar was concluded with exchange of views on ways of bringing positive change in the Horn of Africa.

The Seminar was attended by Mr. Abiyyu Galata, Chairman of the OLF Foreign Office, by Union members, by Oromos in and around Germany, as well as by distinguished scholars on the Horn of Africa and other invited guests.
